I cannot remotely control my 1696, 1697, 1698 series power supply in hyperterminal

Last Updated: May 01, 2014 12:28PM PDT
Applicable Models:  1696, 1697, 1698
Operating System:  Windows XP

Question:
How do I communicate with a 1696, 1697, or 1698 power supply with hyperterminal?  I cannot get the instrument to respond.

Answer:  The 169x series power supplies do not require appending line feeds in hyperterminal for it to communicate.  Under ASCII setup, do not append line feeds for ASCII sending.  If user wants to append line feeds for ASCII receiving, that will not cause problems.  Once hyperterminal is setup with "echo typed characters" enabled in ASCII setup, try sending commands such as "SESS00" (enabled power supply to remote mode) or "VOLT00010" (sets the voltage setting to 1.0 V).

Note:  The commands are case sensitive, so be sure to send each command with all capital letters.
